About 36T and how we work

I already have a customs broker. Why would I need 36T?

A customs broker handles clearance. 36T takes responsibility for the whole operation: supplier, freight, customs, NOMs and delivery, and coordinates every party so you don’t have to.

Can I import into Mexico without my own import registry?

Yes. You can import through our general and sector-specific importing companies, which act as importer of record, while you decide whether to set up your own registration.

What do you need to quote?

Invoice value, the product’s technical sheet, a packing list with dimensions and weights, and the pickup and delivery addresses.

How long does a quote take?

We send your all-in quote within 24 to 48 business hours. Then we call you to walk through it and answer your questions.

Why aren’t you the cheapest option?

Because we don’t quote just one piece. Our quote includes full planning and coordination, and shows your real landed cost per unit, with no surprise charges.

Do you hold your own customs broker license?

We work with a network of vetted partner customs brokers specialized by industry, with coverage at ports of entry across Mexico. That way each shipment gets the broker best suited to your goods.

Which industries do you work with?

We specialize in integrating and running international supply chains into and out of Mexico, whatever the industry. Today we serve companies from industrial machinery to stationery and marine equipment.

Is 36T a fit for a first shipment into Mexico?

Yes. We support you from finding and verifying the supplier to delivery, including NOM compliance.

How much does a Mexican customs broker charge?

It depends on the shipment: the type of goods, their value, the port of entry and the regulations that apply. Send us your details and we’ll quote within 24 to 48 business hours.

What documents do I need for customs clearance in Mexico?

To quote, we need the invoice value, the product’s technical sheet, a packing list with dimensions and weights, and the pickup and delivery addresses. The documents for clearance depend on your goods and the regulations that apply; we review them with you before the cargo reaches customs.

What is a pedimento?

It is the customs entry document filed by the Mexican customs broker for every import. It declares the goods, their tariff classification and the duties and taxes that apply.

Which ports of entry do you cover?

Through our partner brokers we cover ports of entry across Mexico. We assign the broker based on your goods and the port where your shipment enters.

What is an importer of record in Mexico?

It is a company registered in Mexico’s importer registry through which you can import goods even if your company does not have its own registration.

Is importing through an importer of record legal?

Yes. The importing company is registered in Mexico’s importer registry and each operation complies with the regulations that apply to the goods. We walk you through the full structure before you start.

What is the sector-specific importer registry?

It is an additional registration that Mexico’s tax authority (SAT) requires to import goods from certain sectors. If your product needs it, you can import through our sector-specific importing company.

When should I get my own import registration?

It depends on the volume and frequency of your shipments and on how your business is set up in Mexico. Meanwhile you can import through our importing companies, and we’ll help you decide when to register.

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

With FCL you book a full container for your cargo; with LCL your cargo is consolidated with other shippers’ and you pay for the space it uses. We recommend the mode based on your volume, timeline and cost.

Do you handle air and land freight?

Yes. We coordinate ocean, air and land freight, including the US–Mexico border crossing.

How long does a freight quote take?

We send your quote within 24 to 48 business hours, depending on origin, destination and mode.

What is not included in the freight quote?

Third-party charges not included in the quote, such as inspections, demurrage or storage.

Where do you source suppliers?

In China and Southeast Asia, based on your product, specifications and needs.

Do you verify the suppliers you find?

Sourcing does not include validating the supplier’s quality, production capacity and compliance. For that we offer supplier verification and pre-shipment inspection, which you can add to sourcing.

How long does it take to find a supplier?

It varies by product and market.

Can you import the product once I choose a supplier?

Yes. We connect the supplier to your whole import operation into Mexico: freight, customs clearance and NOM compliance, with one accountable partner.

Which countries do you verify suppliers in?

We verify suppliers and factories especially in China and Southeast Asia. If your supplier is somewhere else, message us and we’ll review your case.

I already have a supplier. Can you verify it?

Yes. You can hire verification even if you found the supplier on your own. If you don’t have one yet, we start with sourcing.

What’s the difference between supplier verification and inspection?

Verification checks the supplier and its factory. Pre-shipment inspection checks your goods: goods inspection, pre-shipment review or production monitoring. You can hire either one or both.

How long does supplier verification take?

We quote within 24 to 48 business hours. Verification timing depends on the supplier and its location.

Can you import the goods into Mexico after the verification?

Yes. We connect the purchase to freight, Mexican customs clearance and NOM compliance, with one accountable partner. If you don’t have an import registry in Mexico, we can act as your importer of record.

What does pre-shipment inspection include?

Depending on the service you hire: goods inspection, pre-shipment review and production monitoring.

Does the inspection include product samples?

No. Product samples are not part of the pre-shipment inspection service.

When does the inspection take place?

It’s scheduled based on the supplier’s location and availability at origin. Plan it ahead of your shipping date.

Is it the same as supplier verification?

No. Verification checks the supplier and its factory; inspection checks your goods. You can hire either one or both.

Can you also handle the shipment and the import into Mexico?

Yes. After the inspection we coordinate freight, Mexican customs clearance and NOM compliance, with one accountable partner.

What is tariff classification?

It’s identifying the tariff code (fracción arancelaria) that corresponds to your goods. The duties and regulations that apply depend on that code.

What information do you need to classify my product?

Your product’s technical sheet and description. With that we quote within 24 to 48 business hours.

What is a tariff strategy?

It’s reviewing your operation from a tariff standpoint so you decide with costs and requirements clear before you buy or ship.

When should I classify my goods?

Before you buy or ship. That way you know the duties and regulations from the start instead of finding out at customs.

Can I hire classification on its own?

Yes. You can also combine it with customs brokerage and your full import operation, with one accountable partner.

How do I know which NOM applies to my product?

It depends on your product’s tariff code. We analyze the code and identify the applicable NOMs and regulations; the initial assessment is ready within 24 to 48 business hours.

Do you handle NOM labeling?

We manage the process with labs, inspection bodies and accredited verification units (UVAs), according to what the regulation for your product requires.

How long does NOM compliance take?

The initial assessment is ready within 24 to 48 business hours. Full compliance depends on the applicable regulation.

What do you need for the assessment?

Your product’s technical sheet and description. If you already know its tariff code, share it too.

Should I sort out NOMs before shipping?

Yes. Identifying NOMs during planning lets you resolve them before your goods reach Mexican customs.

Do my goods need an import permit in Mexico?

It depends on the goods and their tariff classification. With your product’s technical sheet we identify which permits and regulations apply.

Which agencies do you file with?

With the Mexican government agencies that apply to your goods. We tell you which one once we review your product.

How long does an import permit take?

It depends on the agency and the filing. We quote the service within 24 to 48 business hours.

Is the permit coordinated with the rest of my import?

Yes. Your 36T account executive connects the permit with your supplier, freight and customs clearance, with one accountable partner.

View service: Bonded and general warehousing

Is storage coordinated with customs and delivery?

Yes. Storage is part of your operation’s plan, and your 36T account executive coordinates it with customs, freight and delivery.

Can I hire warehousing on its own?

Yes. You can also add it to your full import operation with one accountable partner.

What does the landed cost analysis include?

A simulation and full assessment of the costs of your operation. The financial model gives you the real cost per project or per unit, delivered at destination.

What is an outsourced trade department?

It means 36T operates as your import and export department and coordinates suppliers, freight, customs and compliance for you.

How is it different from hiring separate providers?

With separate providers you coordinate each one. With an outsourced department, 36T coordinates suppliers, freight, customs and compliance and is accountable for the whole operation.

Will I have a dedicated contact?

With business validation, the proposal, onboarding and your document file. Then we assign your account executive and plan your operation.
